Add a Second iPhone or iPad

Open the same vault on another device signed in to your Apple Account. Your items sync between them through iCloud.

  1. On the device that has the vault, turn on iCloud and let it sync.
  2. On the second device, make sure you're signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud Keychain turned on, then install SilentBox.
  3. Open SilentBox. When the lock screen appears, enter your vault password.
  4. When SilentBox asks whether to turn on Face ID or Touch ID, tap Turn On.
  5. Tap Settings at the top of the album list (if you don't see it, tap … first), and under iCloud turn on Sync with iCloud. Your albums and items start to arrive.
TipIf SilentBox shows Create Vault instead of the lock screen, don't create a new vault. Keep SilentBox open for a moment: the lock screen appears by itself once your vault's keys arrive through iCloud Keychain.

What's the Same, and What Isn't

Your items, albums and the Trash are the same on every device, and so is the choice of which albums go to iCloud. Face ID or Touch ID, your PIN, Two-Step Unlock, Auto-Lock and Sync with iCloud itself are set on each device separately.

An album that doesn't sync still shows up on your other devices, but its items stay on the device that has them. Open one elsewhere and SilentBox says This item is on another device. An item with an hourglass hasn't been uploaded yet by the device it was added on; open SilentBox on that device and it arrives on its own. Videos download only when you play them — see Keep items only in iCloud.

NoteThe vault's key reaches the new device through iCloud Keychain, sealed so that only your vault password or your recovery phrase opens it. It never goes to iCloud with your items. Without iCloud Keychain, another device can't open the vault — not even with the recovery phrase.
