Export and Back Up
Export Files
Take photos, videos and documents out of the vault as ordinary files, exactly as they went in.
- Open the album you want to export from.
- To export only some items, tap Select and tap the items you want. Otherwise, everything the album shows is exported.
- Tap More (the three dots at the bottom right).
- Under Export All or Export Selected, tap Unencrypted Files.
- If some items are only in iCloud, choose Download and Export to include them, or Export Downloaded Only.
- When Exporting finishes, choose where to save.
One item is saved as its own file. Several items are saved together as one ZIP file named with the date and time. Each file comes out byte for byte as you added it, with the details inside it untouched, and keeps the item's date rather than the day you exported it.
A filter or a search narrows the export too: what the album shows is what goes out. Items in the Trash can't be exported; put them back first.
To export a single item, you can also drag it from the grid into another app.
TipCancel on the Exporting card stops the export, and nothing is offered to save.
NoteExported files aren't encrypted, and the ZIP file has no password. Anyone who has them can open them. For a copy that stays encrypted, make an encrypted archive instead. Exporting files is free, also after the trial ends.
